The Inspiration
"Canada Wild" began as an art series focused on urban wildlife in and around Vancouver, BC, captured through my camera’s lens. Over time, the project expanded to include diverse creatures that inhabit not just our backyards, but many of the natural spaces we humans adventure into. Through a bold, graphic black and white style, these animal portraits honour the power of Canada's extraordinary wildlife, while encouraging viewers to delve a little deeper into the complicated connections that bind us to the natural world.
The Grouse Mountain Refuge has been home to many orphaned and domesticated wild animals over the decades including wolves. Alpha the Timber Wolf was a special resident for over 12 years. He led a full life on the mountain and helped educate hundreds of thousands of visitors about the perils faced by his species.
The Tote
This limited edition tote is 100% made in Canada with sustainable, OEKO-TEK certified, heavyweight cotton canvas. Alpha the Wolf is printed directly on the fabric using a reactive printing process which results in a bright, permanent image that can be washed over and over without fading. The back of each tote is hand screen printed with permanent, water-based ink, making each piece one of a kind.
In addition, our bags are lined with a layer of 100% cotton muslin which provides additional structure and durability, and the built-in double pocket keeps phones, keys and other essential items at your fingertips.
