The Art of Layering

Acrylic Paintings

Before I pick up a brush, my paintings begin in the digital realm. Using photography and digital painting, I refine colour, structure, and balance—creating a standalone mixed media artwork. Some pieces are complete at this stage, fully realized in their digital form. Others call for more, becoming the foundation for an acrylic painting. In these cases, the digital piece acts like a modern underpainting, guiding the final composition. Once it feels right, I translate it to canvas with acrylics, allowing texture, depth, and spontaneity to take over.

Colour Practice

Every painting starts with colour. Mixing paint is more than finding the right shade; it’s about building harmony and emotion on the canvas. Each layer brings structure and movement, rich textures, and subtle transitions, evolving as I respond to the interplay of colour and form. Watch as I mix and prepare my palette, the first step in bringing a new piece to life.
